Ms. Best moved to Fort McMurray as a permanent resident in 2006.  She is Senior Director of Community Programs and Housing Initiatives for the YMCA of Northern Alberta Wood Buffalo Region.

Ms. Best is a co-founder and past-Chair of the Support through Housing Team Society, which provides advocacy for and support to the ‘hard to house clients’ who need chronic support services to attain or maintain seeking appropriate housing to help them achieve the greatest level of their independence.  Ms. Best is also a member of the Board of the Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA).  In 2015 she received a Heart of Wood Buffalo Leadership Award.

Ms. Best says “I love to volunteer my time in our region. Most recently I volunteered with the Centre of Hope to raise funds for the Sub-Zero Challenge and spent a night out in minus 20-degree weather to better understand what the homeless face in our community. I’ve walked in our Santa Clause Parade the last few years. I have a passion for helping people, supporting our community.”

In her other volunteer work, Ms. Best has helped many individuals and families who have found housing through WBHDC and hopes as a Board member to continue to advocate for the vulnerable individuals who access these services.
